مرّ الركب في الصحراء بخيمة امرأة كريمة تُسمّى أم مَعبَد، فطلبوا طعاماً فما وجدت عندها شيئاً، فالسنة جدبة. ورأى النبي ﷺ شاة هزيلة، فاستأذنها في حلبها، فسمّى الله ودعا، فدرّت باللبن. فسقى القوم وشرب هو آخرهم.
القائد يسقي الناس ويشرب آخرهم.
مرّ الركب في طريقه بخيمة امرأة كريمة تُسمّى أم مَعبَد الخزاعية، فسألوها لحماً أو تمراً يشترونه، فاعتذرت أن السنة جدبة وليس عندها ما تبيع. ورأى النبي ﷺ شاة هزيلة في ناحية الخيمة فقال: «ما هذه الشاة يا أم معبد؟» قالت: شاة خلّفها الجهد عن الغنم. فقال: «أبها من لبن؟» قالت: هي أجهد من ذلك. فاستأذنها في حلبها، فقالت: إن كان بها لبن فاحلبها. فمسح ضرعها وسمّى الله ودعا، فدرّت باللبن، فحلب في إناء يكفي القوم. فسقى أم معبد أولاً حتى رويت، ثم سقى أصحابه، ثم شرب هو آخرهم، ثم حلب لها مرة أخرى وتركه عندها.
قال تعالى في نزول البركة: ﴿وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْقُرَىٰ آمَنُوا وَاتَّقَوْا لَفَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَرَكَاتٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ﴾.
متى كانت آخر مرة قدّمت غيرك على نفسك في شيء تحبّه؟

On the way the travellers passed the tent of a generous woman called Umm Ma'bad. They asked to buy food and she had none — it was a dry year. The Prophet ﷺ saw a thin sheep, asked her permission to milk it, mentioned Allah's name and prayed — and it gave milk. He gave everyone to drink, and drank last himself.
A leader serves everyone else, and drinks last.
On the way the travellers passed the tent of a generous woman called Umm Ma'bad of Khuza'ah. They asked to buy meat or dates, and she apologised: it was a dry year and she had nothing to sell. The Prophet ﷺ saw a thin sheep at the side of the tent and asked, “What is this sheep, Umm Ma'bad?” She said: hunger has left her behind the flock. He asked, “Does she have milk?” She said: she is too weak for that. He asked her permission to milk her, and she said: if there is milk in her, then milk her. He wiped her udder, mentioned Allah's name and prayed, and she gave milk — enough to fill a vessel for the whole company. He gave Umm Ma'bad to drink first until she had had her fill, then his companions, then drank last himself, and then milked the sheep again and left the milk with her.
Allah says of blessing: ﴿لَفَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَرَكَاتٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ﴾ — “We would have opened to them blessings from the heaven and the earth.”
