طلب كفار قريش من النبي ﷺ معجزة يرونها بأعينهم، فقالوا: اشقق لنا القمر. فدعا النبي ﷺ ربه، فانشقّ القمر نصفين أمام الناس، نصف فوق جبل ونصف فوق جبل آخر. ومع ذلك قالوا: سحرنا محمد، ولم يؤمنوا.
القلب المتكبّر لا تنفع معه الآيات.
تحدّى كفار قريش النبي ﷺ فقالوا: «لن نؤمن لك حتى تأتينا بمعجزة نراها، اشقق لنا هذا القمر». فدعا النبي ﷺ ربه، وفجأة وأمام أعين الجميع انشقّ القمر نصفين: نصف فوق جبل ونصف فوق جبل آخر، ورآه أهل مكة والمسافرون في الصحراء. ومع وضوح هذه المعجزة عاند زعماء قريش وقالوا: «سحرنا محمد»، فلم يمنعهم من الإيمان ضعف الدليل، بل كِبر القلوب.
وثّق القرآن هذه المعجزة: ﴿اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ وَإِن يَرَوْا آيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ﴾.
لماذا لم يؤمنوا وقد رأوا المعجزة بأعينهم؟

The disbelievers of Quraysh asked the Prophet (pbuh) for a miracle they could see with their own eyes: split the moon for us. He prayed to his Lord, and the moon split in two before the people — half over one mountain and half over another. Even so they said: Muhammad has bewitched us, and they did not believe.
Signs are no use to a heart full of pride.
The disbelievers of Quraysh challenged the Prophet (pbuh): “We will not believe you until you bring a miracle we can see. Split this moon for us.” He prayed to his Lord, and suddenly, before everyone's eyes, the moon split in two: half above one mountain and half above another. The people of Mecca saw it, and so did travellers in the desert. Yet for all the clarity of it, the leaders of Quraysh dug in and said: “Muhammad has bewitched us.” What kept them from believing was not weak evidence but proud hearts.
The Quran records it: ﴿اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ﴾ — “The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has split.”
