جاء فرسان قريش يتبعون الأثر حتى وقفوا عند باب الغار. ويُذكر في كتب السيرة أن عنكبوتاً نسج على الباب وأن حمامة عشّشت أمامه، فقالوا: لو دخل أحد هنا ما بقي هذا كله. فانصرفوا. والذي في القرآن أن الله هو الذي حماه، وأنزل عليه سكينته.
حماية الله لا تحتاج جيشاً؛ يكفيها أضعف الأسباب.
تتبّع فرسان قريش الأثر حتى بلغوا جبل ثور، وبحثوا فيه حتى صاروا عند باب الغار نفسه، حتى قال أبو بكر: لو أن أحدهم نظر تحت قدميه لرآنا. فحُجبوا عنهما ولم يدخلوا، ورجعوا خائبين. ويُذكر في كتب السيرة أن عنكبوتاً نسج خيوطه على فتحة الغار، وأن حمامة عشّشت هناك، فقال القوم: لو دخل أحد هنا لتمزّق النسج وطارت الحمامة — وهذا خبر مشهور بين الناس، لكنه لم يثبت بإسناد قويّ عند أهل الحديث. أما الذي لا شكّ فيه فهو ما أخبر به القرآن: أن الله نصره وأنزل عليه سكينته، وأن له جنوداً لا يعلمها إلا هو.
قال تعالى: ﴿وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ﴾.
لماذا يحمي الله أحياناً بأضعف الأسباب لا بأقواها؟

The horsemen of Quraysh followed the tracks until they stood at the mouth of the cave. The Seerah books mention that a spider had woven over the opening and a dove had nested there, so they said: no one could have gone in past all this — and they turned away. What the Quran itself tells us is that Allah protected him, and sent down His tranquillity upon him.
Allah's protection needs no army; the frailest means is enough.
The horsemen of Quraysh followed the tracks to Mount Thawr and searched it until they were at the very mouth of the cave — so close that Abu Bakr said: if one of them looked down at his feet, he would see us. Yet they were kept from them and did not go in, and they went back empty-handed. The Seerah books mention that a spider had woven its threads across the opening and a dove had nested there, so the men said: if anyone had gone in, the web would be torn and the dove would have flown. That account is famous among people, but it has not been established with a strong chain by the scholars of hadith. What is beyond doubt is what the Quran tells us: that Allah gave him victory and sent down His tranquillity upon him, and that He has soldiers no one knows but Him.
Allah says: ﴿وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ﴾ — “and none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him.”
