صعد النبي ﷺ حتى بلغ شجرة عظيمة تُسمّى سدرة المنتهى، إليها ينتهي كل صاعد ولا يتجاوزها مخلوق. وعندها وقف جبريل عليه السلام وقال: لو دنوتُ أنملة لاحترقت. ومضى النبي ﷺ وحده.
لكل مخلوق حدّ يقف عنده، ومقام نبينا ﷺ عظيم.
صعد النبي ﷺ وجبريل عليه السلام حتى بلغا شجرة عظيمة جميلة تُسمّى سدرة المنتهى، إليها ينتهي علم كل صاعد ولا يجاوزها مخلوق. ورقها كآذان الفِيَلة، وثمرها كِبار، ويغشاها من نور الله ما لا يستطيع أحد أن يصفه. وعندها وقف جبريل عليه السلام فقال للنبي ﷺ ما معناه: هذا مقامي الذي لا أتجاوزه، ولو دنوتُ أنملة لاحترقت. ومضى النبي ﷺ وحده إلى حيث لم يبلغ مخلوق.
قال تعالى: ﴿عِندَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنتَهَىٰ عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ﴾.
جبريل عليه السلام عرف حدّه ووقف عنده — متى يكون الوقوف عند الحدّ شجاعة لا ضعفاً؟

The Prophet (pbuh) rose until he reached a great tree called Sidrat al-Muntaha, where everything that ascends comes to an end and no creature passes beyond. There Jibril stopped and said: if I came a fingertip nearer I would burn. And the Prophet (pbuh) went on alone.
Every creature has a limit — and our Prophet's standing is great.
The Prophet (pbuh) and Jibril rose until they reached a great and beautiful tree called Sidrat al-Muntaha, at which the knowledge of every ascending one ends and beyond which no creature passes. Its leaves are like the ears of elephants, its fruits are large, and it is covered by a light of Allah that no one can describe. There Jibril stopped and told the Prophet (pbuh), in meaning: this is my station, which I do not pass; were I to come a fingertip closer I would burn. And the Prophet (pbuh) went on alone, to where no creature had reached.
Allah says: ﴿عِندَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنتَهَىٰ عِندَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ﴾ — “at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, near it is the Garden of Refuge.”
