نزل النبي ﷺ يحفر مع أصحابه، وقد ربط على بطنه حجراً من الجوع. فرآه جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنه فذهب وذبح شاة صغيرة وطحنت زوجته صاعاً من شعير، ودعاه في نفر قليل. فنادى النبي ﷺ أهل الخندق كلهم، فأكلوا حتى شبعوا وبقي الطعام.
القائد يتعب مع فريقه، لا قبلهم ولا بعيداً عنهم.
لم يجلس النبي ﷺ يتفرّج، بل نزل إلى الخندق يحفر مع أصحابه ويحمل التراب، وقد ربط على بطنه حجراً من شدّة الجوع، وكان يرتجز معهم ليشدّ عزائمهم. فرأى جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنه ما به من الجوع، فانطلق إلى بيته وذبح بهيمة صغيرة، وطحنت امرأته صاعاً من شعير، ثم جاء يدعو النبي ﷺ ونفراً معه سرّاً. فلما علم النبي ﷺ نادى بأعلى صوته: «يا أهل الخندق، إن جابراً قد صنع سُوراً فحيّهلاً بكم». فجاء الناس جميعاً، فدعا النبي ﷺ في البُرمة والعجين، فأكل القوم كلهم حتى شبعوا، وبقي الطعام كما هو.
قال تعالى في رأفته ﷺ بأصحابه: ﴿لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ﴾.
لو كنت قائد فريق، أي عمل تشارك فيه بنفسك قبل أن تطلبه من غيرك؟

The Prophet ﷺ came down and dug with his companions, a stone tied over his stomach from hunger. Jabir ibn Abdullah saw it, went home and slaughtered a small animal while his wife ground a measure of barley, and invited him with a few others. The Prophet ﷺ called all the people of the trench — and they ate until they were full, and food was left over.
A leader tires alongside his team, not ahead of them or apart from them.
The Prophet ﷺ did not sit and watch: he went down into the trench, digging and carrying earth with his companions, a stone tied over his stomach from hunger, chanting with them to lift their spirits. Jabir ibn Abdullah saw how hungry he was, went home and slaughtered a small animal, and his wife ground a measure of barley; then he came quietly to invite the Prophet ﷺ and a few with him. When the Prophet ﷺ knew of it, he called out at the top of his voice: “People of the trench, Jabir has made food — come!” Everyone came. He prayed over the pot and the dough, and the whole company ate until they were full, and the food was still there.
Allah says of his care for them: ﴿عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم﴾ — “Your hardship is grievous to him, and he is concerned for you.”
