نقضت قريش عهد الحديبية فأعانت على حلفاء المسلمين من خزاعة، فوجب نصرهم. فتجهّز النبي ﷺ في عشرة آلاف وسار في سرّية تامة حتى نزل قرب مكة. ثم أمر كل رجل أن يوقد ناراً، فرأت قريش الجبال مشتعلة بعشرة آلاف نار، فعلمت أن لا طاقة لها بقتال.
أفضل نصرٍ ما حُقن فيه الدم.
نقضت قريش عهد الحديبية حين أعانت حلفاءها على خزاعة — وكانت خزاعة في عهد النبي ﷺ — فقُتل منهم رجال، فوجب على المسلمين نصر من ظُلم من حلفائهم. فتجهّز النبي ﷺ في عشرة آلاف، وسار في كتمان شديد حتى لا تستعدّ قريش لقتال، ونزل بـ«مرّ الظهران» قرب مكة. ثم أمر أن يوقد كل رجل من الجيش ناراً، فامتلأت الجبال بعشرة آلاف نار في ليلة واحدة. فلما رأى أبو سفيان وأهل مكة ذلك المشهد أيقنوا أن المقاومة لا معنى لها، فاستسلمت المدينة بغير معركة. لم يكن المقصود إرهاباً، بل منع القتال قبل أن يبدأ.
قال تعالى في نصرة المظلوم: ﴿وَإِنِ اسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ فَعَلَيْكُمُ النَّصْرُ﴾.

Quraysh broke the treaty of Hudaybiyyah by helping an attack on Khuza'ah, who were the Muslims' allies, so those wronged had to be defended. The Prophet ﷺ prepared ten thousand men and moved in complete secrecy until he camped near Mecca. Then he ordered every man to light a fire — and Quraysh saw the hills burning with ten thousand fires, and knew that fighting was hopeless.
The best victory is the one in which no blood is shed.
Quraysh broke the treaty of Hudaybiyyah when they helped their allies against Khuza'ah — who were under the Prophet's covenant — and men of Khuza'ah were killed, so the Muslims were bound to defend the allies who had been wronged. The Prophet ﷺ prepared ten thousand men and moved in strict secrecy so that Quraysh would not gather for a battle, and camped at Marr az-Zahran near Mecca. Then he ordered every man in the army to light a fire, and in one night the hills were covered with ten thousand fires. When Abu Sufyan and the people of Mecca saw it, they were certain that resistance was pointless, and the city gave in without a battle. The aim was never to terrify, but to stop a fight before it started.
Allah says about defending the wronged: ﴿وَإِنِ اسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ فَعَلَيْكُمُ النَّصْرُ﴾ — “If they seek your help, then help is your duty.”
