اشتدّ عليه ﷺ الأمر، وكان يدخل يده في إناء فيه ماء فيمسح وجهه ويقول: «لا إله إلا الله، إن للموت سكرات». وظلّ يوصي بكلمتين حتى ما كاد يُبين بلسانه: «الصلاةَ الصلاةَ، وما ملكت أيمانكم».
حقّ الله وحقّ الناس لا ينفصلان.
اشتدّ المرض على النبي ﷺ في آخر أيامه، وكانت عنده رَكوة فيها ماء، فجعل يدخل يده فيها فيمسح بها وجهه ويقول: «لا إله إلا الله، إن للموت سكرات». ومع كل هذا الوجع، كانت آخر ما ظلّ يوصي به وصيّتين اثنتين يكرّرهما حتى ثقل لسانه فما كاد يُبينهما: «الصلاةَ الصلاةَ، وما ملكت أيمانكم» — أي حافظوا على الصلاة، واتّقوا الله فيمن تحت أيديكم من الخدم والعمّال والضعفاء. لم تكن الوصية الأخيرة في مال يُقسم ولا في مُلك يُورَث. كانت في شيئين: صلتك بربّك، ومعاملتك لمن لا يستطيع أن يشتكي منك لأحد. وهما عند الله واحد لا ينفصل.
قال تعالى: ﴿وَاعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا﴾ ثم عدّد حقّ الجار والمملوك.

The pain grew hard on him. He would put his hand into a vessel of water and wipe his face, saying: “There is no god but Allah; death has its agonies.” And he kept repeating two instructions until his tongue could barely form them: “The prayer, the prayer — and those your right hands possess.”
What you owe Allah and what you owe people do not come apart.
The illness grew hard on the Prophet ﷺ in his last days. There was a vessel of water beside him, and he would dip his hand into it and wipe his face, saying: “There is no god but Allah; death has its agonies.” And through all that pain, what he kept repeating to the end were two instructions, said over and over until his tongue grew too heavy to form them: “The prayer, the prayer — and those your right hands possess.” Guard the prayer; and fear Allah regarding the servants, the workers and the weak who are under your hand. The last testament was not about wealth to divide or a kingdom to inherit. It was about two things: your link with your Lord, and how you treat the person who cannot complain about you to anyone. And with Allah those two are one thing, not two.
Allah joins them in one verse: ﴿وَاعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا﴾ — worship, and then the rights of parents, neighbours and those in one's care.
