وجد النبي ﷺ خفّة، فخرج بين رجلين إلى المسجد وأبو بكر يصلّي بالناس. فلما رآه أبو بكر أراد أن يتأخّر، فأشار إليه النبي ﷺ أن مكانك. وجلس إلى جنبه يصلّي، فكان أبو بكر يصلّي بصلاة النبي ﷺ والناس يصلّون بصلاة أبي بكر.
لا تتزاحم على المقدَّم، وأتمّ ما بدأت.
في أحد الأيام وجد النبي ﷺ من نفسه خفّة، فخرج يمشي بين رجلين ورجلاه تخطّان في الأرض من الضعف، حتى دخل المسجد وأبو بكر رضي الله عنه قائم يصلّي بالناس. فلما أحسّ به أبو بكر ذهب يتأخّر ليفسح له مكان الإمام، فأشار إليه النبي ﷺ بيده: أن مكانك، لا تتأخّر. وجلس النبي ﷺ عن يساره يصلّي، فكان أبو بكر يقتدي بالنبي ﷺ ويرفع صوته بالتكبير ليُسمع الناس، والناس يقتدون بأبي بكر. لم يزح النبي ﷺ رجلاً بدأ صلاة عن مكانه، وأبو بكر لم يزاحم نبيّه. وكانت هذه آخر صلاة صلّاها النبي ﷺ في مسجده بين أصحابه.
قال تعالى: ﴿النَّبِيُّ أَوْلَىٰ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ﴾.
لو حدّ بدأ شغلانة وأنت أقدر منه، هتاخدها منه ولا تكمّل معاه؟

The Prophet ﷺ felt a little stronger, so he came out between two men to the mosque while Abu Bakr was leading the prayer. When Abu Bakr sensed him he began to step back, and the Prophet ﷺ signalled to him: stay where you are. He sat beside him and prayed, with Abu Bakr following the Prophet's prayer and the people following Abu Bakr's.
Do not crowd out the one who started; finish what you began.
One day the Prophet ﷺ felt a little lighter, and came out walking between two men, his feet dragging on the ground from weakness, until he entered the mosque where Abu Bakr was standing leading the people. When Abu Bakr sensed him he began to step back to give him the leader's place, and the Prophet ﷺ signalled with his hand: stay where you are, do not step back. The Prophet ﷺ sat down at his left and prayed, and Abu Bakr followed the Prophet ﷺ and raised his voice with the calls so the people could hear, and the people followed Abu Bakr. The Prophet ﷺ did not move a man out of a prayer he had begun, and Abu Bakr did not crowd his Prophet. This was the last prayer the Prophet ﷺ prayed in his mosque among his companions.
Allah says: ﴿النَّبِيُّ أَوْلَىٰ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ﴾ — “The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves.”
