خرج النبي ﷺ ومعه ألف وأربعمائة في ثياب الإحرام البيضاء يريدون العمرة، لا يحملون سلاح حرب. فمنعتهم قريش، فاختار النبي ﷺ الصلح على القتال، وقبل شروطاً بدت قاسية ليمنع الدماء. وأشارت عليه أم سلمة رضي الله عنها بأن يحلق ويذبح أمام الناس، ففعل، ففعلوا مثله.
أشجع القرارات أحياناً هو اختيار السلام.
خرج النبي ﷺ ومعه ألف وأربعمائة من أصحابه في ثياب الإحرام البيضاء، لا يحملون إلا سلاح المسافر في غمده، يريدون العمرة والطواف بالبيت بعد سنوات من الشوق. فمنعتهم قريش وحبستهم عن المسجد الحرام. فرفض النبي ﷺ أن يبدأهم بقتال، وطلب كل سبيل يحقن الدم. فجلس الطرفان في «الحديبية» يتفاوضان، وقبل النبي ﷺ شروطاً ظاهرها قاسٍ: أن يرجعوا عامهم هذا بغير عمرة، وأن توضع الحرب عشر سنين. وشقّ ذلك على الصحابة. فأشارت عليه أم سلمة رضي الله عنها أن يخرج فيحلق رأسه وينحر هديه أمامهم دون أن يكلّم أحداً، ففعل، فقاموا يفعلون مثله.
وسمّى الله هذا الصلح فتحاً: ﴿إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُّبِينًا﴾.

The Prophet ﷺ set out with one thousand four hundred companions in the white clothes of pilgrimage, carrying no weapons of war, intending the lesser pilgrimage. Quraysh turned them back. He chose a treaty over a battle, and accepted terms that looked hard, to keep blood from being spilt. Umm Salamah advised him to shave his head and offer his sacrifice in front of the people — he did, and they followed him.
Sometimes the bravest decision is to choose peace.
The Prophet ﷺ set out with one thousand four hundred of his companions in the white clothes of pilgrimage, carrying nothing but a traveller's sword in its sheath, meaning to perform the lesser pilgrimage after years of longing for the House. Quraysh blocked them and kept them from the Sacred Mosque. The Prophet ﷺ refused to begin a fight and looked for every road that would spare blood. The two sides sat at Hudaybiyyah and negotiated, and he accepted terms that seemed hard: that they return this year without the pilgrimage, and that war be set aside for ten years. It weighed on the companions. Umm Salamah advised him to go out, shave his head and offer his sacrifice in front of them without speaking to anyone. He did — and they rose and did the same.
Allah called this treaty a conquest: ﴿إِنَّا فَتَحْنَا لَكَ فَتْحًا مُّبِينًا﴾ — “Indeed, We have given you a clear conquest.”
