كانت قريش ترقب الطريق المعتاد إلى المدينة، فاختار النبي ﷺ طريق الساحل، وهو طريق وعر لا يسلكه الناس. واستأجر دليلاً خبيراً بالطرق اسمه عبد الله بن أُريقط، وكان على دين قومه لا مسلماً، لكنه كان ماهراً أميناً يحفظ العهد، فأمّنه النبي ﷺ على الطريق.
اختر لعملك من يُحسنه ويحفظ الأمانة.
كانت قريش قد وضعت الرقباء على الطريق المعتاد إلى المدينة، فخطّط النبي ﷺ وأبو بكر أن يسلكا طريق الساحل، وهو طريق وعر لا يسلكه الناس عادة، حتى لا يُهتدى إليهما. ولأن الصحراء لا تُقطع بغير خبير، استأجرا رجلاً ماهراً بالطرق يُقال له عبد الله بن أُريقط. وكان هذا الرجل على دين قومه لم يكن مسلماً، ومع ذلك أمّنه النبي ﷺ على أخطر رحلة في حياته، لأنه كان بارعاً في عمله معروفاً بالوفاء بالعهد. فسلّما إليه الراحلتين، ثم لقيهما بعد ثلاث ليالٍ عند الغار، وانطلقوا. الأمانة والمهارة يُقدَّران في أهلهما، والعمل يُسنَد إلى من يُحسنه.
قال تعالى: ﴿وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْئُولًا﴾.
إذا احتجت مساعدة في أمر لا تعرفه، فمَن تختار ولماذا؟

Quraysh were watching the usual road to Madinah, so the Prophet ﷺ took the coastal route — rough country that people did not travel. He hired an expert guide named Abdullah ibn Urayqit, who followed his people's religion and was not a Muslim, but who was skilled and kept his word — so the Prophet ﷺ trusted him with the road.
Choose for a job the person who does it well and keeps a trust.
Quraysh had put watchers on the usual road to Madinah, so the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr planned to take the coastal route: rough country that people did not normally travel, where no one would look for them. And because the desert cannot be crossed without someone who knows it, they hired a man skilled in its paths, Abdullah ibn Urayqit. He followed his people's religion and was not a Muslim — and still the Prophet ﷺ trusted him with the most dangerous journey of his life, because he was good at his work and known for keeping his word. They handed him the two mounts, and three nights later he met them at the cave and they set off. Skill and trustworthiness are recognised in whoever has them, and work is given to the one who can do it.
Allah says: ﴿وَأَوْفُوا بِالْعَهْدِ إِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْئُولًا﴾ — “and fulfil the covenant; the covenant will be asked about.”
