جاء ضِماد الأزدي إلى مكة وسمع الناس يقولون إن محمداً به مسّ، وكان يعالج، فعرض أن يعالجه. فسمع منه النبي ﷺ ثم قال كلمات الحمد والتوحيد، فقال ضِماد: أعد عليّ! سمعت الكهنة والسحرة والشعراء، فما سمعت مثل هذا. وأسلم مكانه.
اسمع بنفسك قبل أن تصدّق ما يقوله الناس.
قدم مكة رجل من أزد شنوءة يُقال له ضِماد، وكان يرقي من الريح، فسمع سفهاء مكة يقولون إن محمداً مجنون، فقال: لو أني رأيت هذا الرجل لعل الله يشفيه على يدي. فلقيه وقال: يا محمد، إني أرقي من هذه الريح، فهل لك؟ فقال النبي ﷺ: «إن الحمد لله، نحمده ونستعينه، من يهده الله فلا مضلّ له، ومن يُضلل فلا هادي له». فقال ضِماد: أعد عليّ كلماتك هؤلاء! فأعادها ثلاثاً، فقال: لقد سمعت قول الكهنة وقول السحرة وقول الشعراء، فما سمعت مثل كلماتك هؤلاء. ثم أسلم. وبعد سنوات جاء الشاعر كعب بن زهير تائباً بعد هجاء، فأنشد بين يدي النبي ﷺ قصيدته المشهورة، فعفا عنه وأكرمه.
قال تعالى في عظمة هذا القرآن: ﴿لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ﴾.
آخر مرة سمعت كلاماً عن شخص ما — تأكّدت بنفسك ولا صدّقت على طول؟

Dhimad al-Azdi came to Mecca and heard people saying Muhammad was touched in the head. He treated such things, so he offered to treat him. The Prophet ﷺ listened to him, then spoke words of praise and of the oneness of Allah — and Dhimad said: say them again! I have heard soothsayers and sorcerers and poets, and I have never heard anything like this. He accepted Islam on the spot.
Listen for yourself before you believe what people say.
A man of Azd Shanu'ah called Dhimad came to Mecca. He used to treat people, and he heard the foolish of Mecca saying that Muhammad was mad, so he said: if I could see this man, perhaps Allah would heal him at my hands. He met him and said: Muhammad, I treat this kind of affliction — shall I? The Prophet ﷺ said: “All praise is for Allah; we praise Him and seek His help. Whom Allah guides, none can lead astray; whom He leaves astray, none can guide.” Dhimad said: say those words of yours again! He repeated them three times, and Dhimad said: I have heard the words of soothsayers, and of sorcerers, and of poets, and I have never heard anything like these words of yours. Then he accepted Islam. Years later the poet Ka'b ibn Zuhayr came in repentance after satirising him, recited his famous poem before the Prophet ﷺ, and was pardoned and honoured.
Allah says of this Quran: ﴿لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا﴾ — “Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled.”
