The Great Secret and Dar al-Arqam

When Allah commanded the Prophet (pbuh) to call people, he began quietly with those closest to him. His wife Khadijah believed, and his friend Abu Bakr, his young cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Zaid ibn Harithah. The first Muslims would gather in the house of a brave young man named al-Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam, learning the Quran and praying away from the harm of Quraysh.

A small beginning, kept quiet, can raise the greatest generation.

After Allah commanded His Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to call people to Islam, he began secretly with those closest to him. His wife Khadijah believed, and his friend Abu Bakr, his young cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Zaid ibn Harithah. Because Quraysh worshipped idols and refused change, the first Muslims had to meet in secret to learn the Quran and pray. So the Prophet (pbuh) chose a house out of sight belonging to a brave young man named al-Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam. From that quiet house came a generation that changed the course of history.

Allah says of the first forerunners: ﴿وَالسَّابِقُونَ الْأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنصَارِ﴾ — Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him.
