في آخر الخطبة سأل النبي ﷺ الجمع: «ألا هل بلّغت؟» فقالوا: نعم. فرفع إصبعه إلى السماء ثم نكتها إليهم وقال: «اللهم اشهد». ونزل يومئذ: ﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ﴾. ففرح الناس، وبكى أبو بكر رضي الله عنه؛ لأنه فهم أن الاكتمال يعني قرب الوداع.
بعض الناس يفهم من الخبر ما لا يفهمه غيره.
لما أتمّ النبي ﷺ خطبته، التفت إلى ذلك الجمع كلّه وسألهم سؤالاً واحداً: «وأنتم تُسألون عنّي، فما أنتم قائلون؟» قالوا: نشهد أنك قد بلّغت وأدّيت ونصحت. فرفع إصبعه إلى السماء ثم نكتها إلى الناس وقال ثلاثاً: «اللهم اشهد، اللهم اشهد، اللهم اشهد». وفي ذلك اليوم — يوم عرفة من حجّة الوداع — نزل قول الله تعالى: ﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي﴾. ففرح الناس بها فرحاً شديداً: اكتمل الدين وتمّت النعمة. ويُذكر أن أبا بكر الصدّيق رضي الله عنه بكى؛ لأنه سمع في الكلمة ما لم يسمعه غيره: أن العمل إذا تمّ، فقد اقترب وقت صاحبه أن يمضي.
قال تعالى: ﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا﴾.
لما بتخلّص شغل تعبت فيه، بتحسّ بإيه؟ فرح ولا حاجة تانية كمان؟

At the end of the sermon the Prophet ﷺ asked the gathering: “Have I delivered it?” They said yes. He raised his finger to the sky, then pointed it at them and said: “O Allah, bear witness.” That day the verse came down: “Today I have perfected your religion for you.” The people rejoiced — and Abu Bakr wept, because he understood that completion meant the parting was near.
Some people hear in a piece of news what nobody else hears.
When the Prophet ﷺ finished his sermon, he turned to that whole gathering and asked them one question: “You will be asked about me — what will you say?” They said: we bear witness that you have delivered the message, discharged the trust and given counsel. He raised his finger towards the sky, then pointed it at the people, and said three times: “O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness. O Allah, bear witness.” And on that day — the day of Arafat in the Farewell Pilgrimage — the verse came down: “Today I have perfected your religion for you and completed My favour upon you.” The people were overjoyed: the religion was complete and the favour was full. And it is related that Abu Bakr wept, because he heard in that sentence what no one else heard: when a work is finished, the time of the one who did it is near.
Allah says: ﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي﴾ — “Today I have perfected your religion for you and completed My favour upon you.”
