خرج بُرَيدة بن الحُصَيب في سبعين رجلاً من قومه يطلبون جائزة قريش. فلما لقوا النبي ﷺ سألهم عن أسمائهم وكلّمهم بلطف عن الإسلام، فأسلموا جميعاً في مجلس واحد. فحلّ بُرَيدة عمامته وربطها في رمحه راية بيضاء، وسار القوم يحرسون النبي ﷺ.
الكلمة اللطيفة تكسب من لا يكسبه السيف.
خرج بُرَيدة بن الحُصَيب الأسلمي في سبعين رجلاً من قومه يطلبون النبي ﷺ طمعاً في جائزة قريش. فلما لقوه في الصحراء لم يعاملهم بغلظة، بل سأله: مَن أنت؟ فقال: بُرَيدة. فتفاءل النبي ﷺ باسمه، ثم أخذ يكلّمه في الإسلام كلاماً هيّناً لطيفاً. فوقعت الكلمات في قلبه وقلوب قومه حتى أسلموا جميعاً في مجلس واحد، فصار سبعون طالباً للجائزة سبعين حارساً. ثم أراد بُرَيدة أن يدخل النبي ﷺ المدينة بعزّ، فحلّ عمامته من رأسه وربطها في رمحه فصارت راية بيضاء، وسار القوم بين يديه.
قال تعالى: ﴿ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ﴾.

Buraydah ibn al-Husayb rode out with seventy of his people after the reward Quraysh had promised. When they met the Prophet ﷺ he asked their names and spoke to them gently about Islam — and they all became Muslims in one sitting. Buraydah untied his turban, fastened it to his spear as a white banner, and they rode on guarding the Prophet ﷺ.
A gentle word wins people a sword never could.
Buraydah ibn al-Husayb al-Aslami rode out with seventy of his people looking for the Prophet ﷺ, after the reward Quraysh had promised. When they met him in the desert he did not meet them harshly; he asked, “Who are you?” The man said: Buraydah. The Prophet ﷺ took his name as a good sign, and then spoke to him about Islam gently and easily. The words settled in his heart and in the hearts of his people until they all became Muslims in that one sitting — seventy men after a reward became seventy guards. Then Buraydah wanted the Prophet ﷺ to enter Madinah with honour, so he untied the turban from his head and fastened it to his spear as a white banner, and they rode ahead of him.
Allah says: ﴿ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ﴾ — “call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good counsel.”
