The Quran came down in seven modes so every Arab tribe could recite it comfortably, and scholars have handed down ten trusted recitations we still read it by today.
Sahih al-Bukhari (the hadith of the seven ahruf), and An-Nashr fi al-Qira'at al-Ashr by Ibn al-Jazari
The seven ahruf are what the Quran came down in for ease; the ten recitations are ten imams' later transmissions of it. That they are mutawatir is the position of the majority, set out by Ibn al-Jazari in an-Nashr.
