Honouring Your Parents

I honour my parents with a kind word, with help, and by obeying them in what is good.

A child came home from school tired, and his mother asked him to tidy his bag. He nearly said something short, then remembered that Allah commanded goodness to parents. He said: of course — then tidied his bag and helped carry something small. Honouring parents is in generous words, in helping, in praying for them, and in obeying them in what is good.

Allah joined tawhid and goodness to parents in one verse, because their right is so great.

Honouring parents

Why do you think serving your parents sometimes begins with a gentle word?
