I forgive when I am able, and I ask for things to be put right rather than for revenge.
At home a little brother knocked down a tower of blocks by accident, and for a moment the older child was angry. Then he asked himself: could I put this right instead of shouting? He said to his brother: be careful next time — come, let's build it together. Forgiving does not mean the mistake was fine; it means leaving revenge when you could take it, and opening the door to putting things right. The Prophet ﷺ used to forgive, and loved to see matters mended.
Forgiveness is at its best when it comes with putting things right, so the harm is not repeated.
If someone wronged you and then apologised, why do you think forgiving is strength rather than weakness?
